On Monday, Monica and Matt from our call center in Livingston, NJ, showed us just how easy and fast it is to sign up for Verizon’s new volunteer platform.
Tuesday, Andy was on Good Day Columbus showing off our best holiday tech available for under $100 this holiday season.
On Wednesday’s Rundown, we covered some of the world’s wackiest headlines, from the $120,000 banana to the most powerful rocket ever built.
Then on Thursday, Newport News Shipbuilding became the nation’s first 5G-equipped shipyard with Verizon Ultra Wideband, and more than 100 V Teamers across the east coast built care packages for troops overseas.
Greta Thunberg named TIME’s Person of the Year.
Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist, was named TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year this week. She is the youngest person to ever receive the award. Greta began skipping school to protest climate change in 2018, and has helped sparked global protests calling attention to the issue this year. Hans Vestberg was quoted in TIME’s Person of the Year article, saying about climate change and corporate responsibility, “Our employees think about it much more, our customers are talking about it much more, and society is expecting us to show up.” Read the article.

5G and the Future of Video in L.A.
At the Future of Video Conference in Los Angeles, Erin McPherson, head of our content team, spoke about the impact 5G will have on the industry. She talked about how 5G will change how consumers interact with video content, and she challenged content creators to put consumers first by creating more choices and flexibility.
FCC moves forward with national suicide prevention hotline.
This week, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission voted to take further steps to create a new 3-digital dialing code (“988”) that would function as a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline. “Verizon welcomes the FCC's move to create a national suicide hotline,” said Kathy Grillo, Deputy General Counsel. “Suicide is an issue that impacts millions of Americans, including far too many who served in our military. We will work with the FCC to resolve technical challenges and quickly bring this additional resource online for people in need.”
