On the horizon: 41 events & application deadlines for your February calendar - WRAL Tech Wire

Plenty of technology and life science events and deadlines are on tap for February, and we suggest you pencil them into your calendar soon.

If you’re interested in events coming up in the immediate future, check out our two-part list of December and January events in the Triangle and in other regions across North Carolina. Also, check out our list of over 100 meetups in the Triangle.

These columns accompany our interactive calendar, along with a comprehensive resource package for startups in the Triangle.

Keeping up with WRAL TechWire’s continued initiative to track events happening across North Carolina, here’s a look at what’s to come in February:

Techstars Startup Weekend Davidson

January 31-February 2 @Hurt Hub @Davidson

During this three-day event, participants will join together to form a team, create a prototype, validate their ideas and receive feedback from entrepreneurs.

Application Deadline: Kinetic Creative Boot Camp

February 2

Winston-Salem’s Center for Creative Economy recently launched Kinetic, a four-week startup boot camp for creatives who are ready to turn their idea into a business. In-person workshops will be held twice a week in March 2020. More TechWire coverage here.

NC IDEA Spring 2020 Grants Information Session (Wilmington)

February 3, 5:30-7 p.m. @UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

At this info session, NC IDEA will share details on the upcoming spring 2020 grants: NC IDEA MICRO and NC IDEA SEED. Learn more about the programs and how to apply. NC IDEA MICRO and NC IDEA SEED applications open February 3 and close March 2. (Note: This event is part of a series of information sessions NC IDEA is hosting throughout the state. NC IDEA MICRO & NC IDEA SEED Applications Open

February 3

NC IDEA is seeking applicants for its upcoming spring 2020 SEED and MICRO grant programs:

  • The NC IDEA SEED grant program offers a select group of early-stage startups $50,000 in funding for validating target markets, growing and scaling before they seek future investments. Recipients will also receive mentorship from NC IDEA and access to its network.
  • The NC IDEA MICRO grant program offers funding of up to $10,000 for early-stage companies seeking to validate and further develop their ideas. Recipients will also receive mentorship from NC IDEA and access to its network.

NC IDEA MICRO and NC IDEA SEED grant applications are due March 2 at 5 p.m. ET.

Application Deadline: Duke MEDx Biomechanics of Injury or Injury Repair RFA

February 3

Duke MEDx has announced a call for proposals for faculty-led interdisciplinary research in the biomechanics of injury and injury repair. Grant applicants should request up to $50,000 in direct costs.

Clean Energy in the Southeast 2020 Continuing Legal Education

February 4, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. @Raleigh Convention Center

This CLE program will feature the latest insights on the implementation of clean energy policy, customer choice, regulatory reform, resiliency, utility scale solar, electric vehicles, and more topics.

1 Million Cups Lake Norman

February 5, 7:30-9 a.m. @Hurt Hub @Davidson

Every Wednesday morning, entrepreneurs in the Lake Norman area join to present their companies to mentors, advisers and other startups. Join to meet new people and collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs.

1 Million Cups CLT

February 5, 8:30-10 a.m.

Held every month, 1 Million Cups Charlotte features a presentation from a local startup followed by a Q&A from the community. Free coffee is included.

1 Million Cups Asheville

February 5, 9-10 a.m. 

Asheville’s startup community meets weekly to hear presentations and support one another in continuing to grow.

NC Chamber Environmental Compliance Conference

February 5, 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. @Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel

Join the NC Chamber, NC Department of Environmental Quality officials and industry experts to discuss pressing regulatory issues, legislation and policy decisions impacting air, water, waste and natural resources.

Larger Than Life Science

February 6, 4-7 p.m. @The Chesterfield

Venture Café Thursday Gathering

February 6, 5-8 p.m. @Bailey Power Plant

Held on a weekly basis, this Venture Café event series provides all sorts of programming for Piedmont Triad entrepreneurs and innovators. Every Thursday evening, the community gathers for networking, panel talks, workshops, presentations, product demos, interviews, and more.

NC IDEA Spring 2020 Grant Prep Session (Charlotte)

February 6, 6-8 p.m. @UNCC PORTAL Building

At this info session, Ventureprise will be hosting NC IDEA for an information session with details on the upcoming spring 2020 grants: NC IDEA MICRO and NC IDEA SEED. ReCONNECT to Technological Opportunity Forum

Join the Institute for Emerging Issues in Raleigh for its fourth forum in the ReCONNECT NC series. This full-day event will explore what communities can do to leverage high speed internet in an equitable way.

Application Deadline: Duke MEDx Colloquia Series

Duke MEDx is offering funding and support for interdisciplinary colloquia that bring together physicians, engineers, computer scientists, data analysts, and basic and/or clinical researchers who are combining medicine and engineering to solve complex problems.

The NC Biotech Center’s Translational Research Grant program provides funding for projects exploring/developing commercial applications for university-held life science inventions. Applications for cycle 2 are due at 12 p.m. EST.
