Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation is on the path to completing the Joint Venture Construction Program application process after recently being moved into the final phase.
Omak and Nespelem are the largest districts and are in need of modernized and new clinical operations. The other three smaller districts, have fairly new clinical operations. Omak has a smaller clinic and Nespelem is about ten years dated, according to Rodney Cawston, Chairman of the Colville Business Council.
“For one of the largest districts on this reservation, I really feel this is going to give us that opportunity to right size that clinical operation in one of our largest districts,” Cawston. “And to provide a lot of needed healthcare services that we are providing at minimum today.”
Under the Joint Venture Construction program, the Colville Tribes could construct the Omak Clinic Health Facility using non Indian Health Service Funds (IHS) and in return IHS would enter a 20 year lease for the facility. IHS would request annual appropriations for operation and maintenance of the facility during this 20 year span.
“It’s an opportunity to enter in a 20 year lease for the facility and for annual appropriations to increase in our staff in that district. If this is awarded, that’s going to tremendously increase our staffing and give us an opportunity to build a new clinical facility in Omak,” said Cawston.
The evaluation process is expected to be completed February 2020.
