Kawhi Leonard, Paul George to make Clippers debut together against Celtics - USA TODAY

LOS ANGELES – The Clippers will finally unveil their dynamic duo together.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George will make their partnership debut when the Los Angeles Clippers host the Boston Celtics on Monday at Staples Center.

Plenty of attention will center on the dynamic between Leonard and George after the Clippers acquired both players in what is considered by some as the biggest free agency move last summer. The Clippers are strongly favored to win what would be their first NBA championship.

No wonder Clippers guard Rodney McGruder predicted Staples Center “is going to be crazy” once George and Leonard step on the court. The two NBA All-Stars will also experience an official homecoming. Leonard grew up in Moreno Valley, George in Palmdale. Their close friends and family will get a first glimpse at what Clippers fans have anticipated the past five months.

“I can’t wait to see  it,” McGruder said. “That’s going to be a lot of fun for us. It's going to make the game so much easier for the three guys around them.”

Coach Doc Rivers declined to name who those three players will be, but Leonard and George will start without any minutes restriction. Both players have the positional versatility to score in various ways as well as defend opponents of all sizes.

The Clippers signed Leonard as a free agent after he expressed a desire to potentially win his second consecutive NBA title with a team near his hometown rather than with the Toronto Raptors. The Clippers also needed to make a deal to ensure that would happen. After Leonard made it clear that he wanted the Clippers to acquire George from Oklahoma City, the Clippers dealt Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Danilo Ganiliari and five first-round picks (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2026).

George has averaged 29.3 points on 56.3 percent shooting and 3.7 assists through three games after returning from off-season surgery on both shoulders.

Leonard missed the past four games because of "left knee injury management" after logging a season-high 41 minutes in Houston on Nov. 13. Leonard has missed a combined six games, including part of back-to-back slates in Utah (Oct. 30) and against Milwaukee (Nov. 6). Leonard has averaged 26.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists in nine games.
